Frisbee inventor passes away

Frisbee inventor passes away

The man who invented the Frisbee has died in the United States.

Fred Morrison, who was 90, came up with the design as he and his future wife, Lu, played with the lid of a popcorn tin in the 1950s. He originally called the toy the Pluto Platter.

In 1957 he sold the rights to a California-based company. Eventually the name of the toy was changed to Frisbee, apparently because early users had begun calling it the ‘Frisbie’ after a popular pie of the day. Millions of the toys have been sold world-wide.

Mr. Morrison passed away at his home in Monroe, Utah. He had been suffering from cancer.

He is survived by his three children.
